Ok .. I'm calming down . ..

I can scan into PsP8 . .I can scan using its own Perf 1290 s/w. . .. I really can't in V5 do ANYTHING with it! It just keeps falling over!

It would help to improve my Artwork Workflow . .if you know what I mean . . save having to do a graphics package shimmy . ..

Can't help you with your V% problem. However, IrfanView at http://www.irfanview.com/ is a terrific and FREE graphics program that can do your scanning for you. Its lightweight and fast. For that reason, I do all my scans with it, even though I edit with another graphics package. And as far as your artwork workflow, why keep vegas busy doing scans? Why not use vegas for editting while you're scanning in parallel with some other app?

Understood . . I like to have ONE package for one thing when I'm sl;apping stuff about . . yes:

1/- I can Scan into PsP - it works!

2/- I can scan into V4 . .infact a vcan run a aDV tape and capture stills from the tape as per a scanner/camera . . this is gioving me a still review option too!

3/- I can use Windozes own Driver for the scanner and get that to work.

4/- I acn use the Epson drivers - no problem!

. . .

I just would like to be working in V5 and then IF I want a few stills/scratches/paintilly things/odd bits and pieces = bits of rusty iron OR scrunched-up paper/textures . . found items and just stuff! I'd like to be able to use the scanner in V5 . . . Straight into the Media Pool . . . I really don;t want to open up another package ..

After all there is :

1/- An icon on the Media Pool for it

and ..

2/- File > Get Photo . . . .

Thanks for your thoughts though . .. .

BTW . .HAs anybody had success straight into V5?

Grazie

Is the scanner on firewire? is it by itself if on firewire? I keep my scanning stuff on another computer to keep the movie one uncluttered.
Also with Adobe Elements and Corel Photopaint sharing with another HP scanner which is on a SCSI feed. The Epson 2450 is on a firewire feed by itself. Got to have the latest twain drivers.

Thanks JJ, pure simple USB. All the other packages work with it - and Vegas 4 - but stubbornly not Vegas 5b. Nope, not firewire at all. Latest drivers installed.

Awhile back, in my old Sony Vaio, I experienced a whole lot of problems with V5 recognizing my Epson scanner. It's in the archives here. I never did get it to work. It would preview, but not scan. Go figure. I had a lot of other problems with V5 which were very frustrating.

Then my old Vaio crashed and I bought a new one. Lo! no scanning problems. In fact, no problems AT ALL with V5.

My conclusion: after scorching Sony over my problems with V5, I am now convinced that it was a computer problem and not a software problem. What other conclusion could I come to?

So I hereby take back all those bad thoughts about V5. It works perfectly in my new computer.

My cure? Keep your editing computer for editing only!

Did you update your old Vaio to Windows XP?

Just like with most other laptops that didn't come with Win XP, Vaios didn't upgrade well (because laptop hardware is less standardize, it needs custom Windows drivers).

Absolutely not! I have never touched SP1 or SP2--and I never will!! And I'm doing just fine, thank you. Only my 72-year-old head forgets things every once in awhile <g>.

SP1 is cool, SP2 is something best enjoyed by spring 2005 I think.

At one time scanners were really difficult to set up because of resource conflicts with limited resources (IRQ DMA and memory addresses) and Twain drivers.

It isn't so bad now though.

When you select acquire or scan or with Vegas...."get photo" it brings up the software that you installed with the scanner which is Twain compliant and it scans the picture into whatever program you are using.

There have been a number of posts regarding problems with various scanners not working.

One solution was to eliminate old twain files, another was to shutdown wow.exe (which is started when an older 16bit program needs it and then it interferes with Vegas.

I didn't see a one size fits all solution, but you can do a search and work through it if you want.

Search "scanner" or "wow.exe" or "twain"

NICKLE! You STAR-MAN! . . Shining Nickle ! ! !

Yeah, I guess it was more the posts you put me "back in touch with" . . . I'd read these and just thought ughhh, I can't do this! . . however . .

Success was down to 3 things:

1/- Grazie getting over his fear of juggling with DLLs . .NO easy matter . .

2/- There was actually 2 TWAINs of the same name .. AND in different locations.

-------- TWAIN_32.DLL . .. Modified 01/07/1996 uhuh!?!? Created 14/12/04 when I loaded new drivers . . yeah right !?!?!?!

-------- twain_32.dll . . . Modified 31/03/03 Created 15/12/2004

So .. . UPPER and lower case namimng points to the difference PLUS the creation dates ..

What does all this mean ? . .

When I downloaded the driver updates it didn't Search and Destroy all the stuff it needed to do FOR Vegas to work .. NOT Vegas' fault.

I've checked out the other graphics packages and they still work fine - including Vegas 4 !

This would point to the issue being that V5 has "moved" beyond the 1996 TWAIN dll and must have been assuming that my set of DLLs for TWAIN were up to the mark.

Now, in Vegas 5, I get a "choice" of which camer/Twain device I want to go for! Spectacular!

Thank you everybody ! Luvs Yah!
