Erasing dead space

After deleting most of a video clip I am left with much left over dead space at the end. How do I just save what I want and delete the rest. I am a novice so be easy on me...

Why worry about it? If it is empty, it won't be used and nothing will render in that area.

That is correct, but also make sure you do not have the blank portion selected in a loop.
