Erratic Mouse Action - Windows 7

This forum may be far more useful and direct in obtaining solutions than others.

Since a couple of months ago my mouse started acting erratically and I cannot find a reason or solution for it. Tried cleaning, other mouse, other pad, no joy. Seems to be a driver or even a virus.

Specifically with Vegas Pro 10e, the mouse selects randomly from video clips, or opens a new window or, in general, it does an unwanted action. Very touchy and finicky. Slowed the response down, turned off Shift action, no joy either. Microsoft has nothing clear that I can find.

Since this behaviour interferes severely with my editing in Vegas Pro, perhaps others have experienced this problem and found a solution. PC is up to date, zero errors until this.

I had similar behaviour when my mouse was going bad. Do you have another mouse, even an old one, that you can test?

Is it a wireless mouse? My wife and I used to play dueling mice until i figured out we were on the same frequency and changed my mouse to another brand...

I forgot to specify it is an HP USB wired mouse. I tried others with same result.

There are many other users with the same problem, including Microsoft forum, but no solution. Usually, the Vegas Pro users are smarter and discover good solutions. I am hoping for same. Tnx.

This is probably not your problem, but we had a mouse panic a while back and it turned out that there was also a tablet installed. The tablet had been set aside, the stylus laying on top of it, and then a bunch of paper over it all so you couldn't see it. The result was an erratic mouse as the stylus kept moving it back to an absolute position determined by its tablet.

We solved it backwards, by disconnecting all USB devices except the mouse. That solved it. Then we traced the other cables and eventually found the stylus and tablet.

So, disconnect your other USB and PS2 cables. Maybe there's a wireless dongle back there, or a second wireless mouse.

Mine has been acting up, too (Logitech wireless). Erratic movements, clicks don't register, selects items all by itself. Changing the batteries didn't help, but this week it hasn't acted up at all (so far). Really strange...
