error 1603 when Installing Vegas 10

I bought vegas 10, twodays ago and can not even load it on to my computer!!!
Every time I try to install it, it wants to install "Windows Media Format Runtime 11" it acts like it is installing last message I see occur in the installer window before it crashes is "rolling back action"
Then I get a vegas screen that simply says
ERROR: 1603 occured during installation

I have windows XP media center edition with SP3
I put in a question to the "official" Vegas support section but have not heard anything other than an autoreply.
Hope someone can help me figure this out.

That's a tough one. It's obviously a problem with installing the Windows Media prerequisites. Do you have the latest Windows Media Player 11 *AND* all of the updates?

Try installing WMP11 separately--here's the link to the Microsoft download page:

If you can get WMP11 installed successfully, visit Windows Update and check for any critical or optional updates that might apply.
