Error message on opening project & freezing screen

pegmac wrote on 3/6/2011, 2:49 PM
Each time I open my project I get the following message:-
' An error occurred while loading the project. Some streams in the media file could not be opened'.
When I click on details I get a message stating:-
'A nested project source media file was not found', then it gives path and name of my project.
The version of Movie Studio I have does not have 'nested objects'
If I click on the pan/crop toll it freezes the whole screen and the only way out of it is to switch off the pc.
On advice from Sony I have done a clean uninstall and reinstall. This has not cured it.
Can someone please help as I have just bought this programme and I do not know what else I can do to fix the problem.

It could be any number of things.

What kind of camcorder did your video come from and how did you get it into your computer?

Are you using any other video sources besides this video?

How much free, freshly defragmented space is on your C drive? Are you editing with more than one hard drive?

What operating system are you using? Have you gone to Windows Update to ensure you have even the non-critical Windows Updates. Have you downloaded the latest Quicktime from Apple.com?

I ran into something similar using Vegas Pro.

This is what I determined was wrong.

When I started a new project, I saved the project file (.veg) in a folder in which all of my assets were located. (video capture, graphics, etc). I then went to import the assets into Vegas and just did a "select all" within the folder, not thinking it would also import the veg file that I was running. It started crashing with the same error.

I went into the source folder within Vegas and removed the veg file and that fixed the problem.

Thank you for your reply. Here are the answers to the questions:-

1. The Camcorder is a JVC GR-D290 and I used my firewire (IEEE1394) to get it into the laptop. BUT the video was shot 10 years ago using an Analogue Camera. I transferred the film from the old VHS video tapes to the mini DVs in the JVC Camera thereby digitising them before transferring them to the laptop using the firewire.

2. No, I am not using any other video sources.

3. There are 179Gb free space on the C drive. I keep the laptop mainly for video editing and do not clutter it up with other work. No I am not editing with more than one hard drive.

4. I use Vista Home Premium and I have all the updates. I presume the last question applies to MACs.

I will be very grateful if either you or anyone else can solve this problem for me as it is spoiling my enjoyment of what I think is an excellent programme.

Thank you for your reply.

Firstly I do not have.veg files, I have .vf files. Is this because of the different prorammes, yours was Pro and mine is Movie Studio 10.

But whatever the answer to that question, I do not have them all in the same folder as you did.

But it is strange that a completely different set of circumstances should come up with the same error message.

And, even stranger, the same thing happened when I had the 30 day free trial and again in the bought version. I thought the clean uninstall would have cleared that up. I then began to think it must be a conflict with something else in my laptop OR something to do with my imported media. But it worked perfectly well in WMM. (I have already done the same piece of editing in WMM but decided to start again using MS. )
