Error message rcvd: Feature you are trying to use unavailable.

Hi,

I'm trying to install the Vegas 22 Deep Learning Models in latest version of V22 Pro. The main program installs and works fine, but I've come to the point where i need to utilize AI and the Deep Learning Models module is required. Whenever I try to do the install, I get this message: "Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "VEGAS_Deep_Learning_Models_setup_x64.ms_" in the box below.

I've done global search in my C drive for that package and found it, though from an earlier attempt at doing this (April 2025). Tried clicking on that file, but then I get a message saying, "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."

When I try to discontinue the install process, I get this message: "The older version of Vegas Pro 22.0 (Deep Learning Models) cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group." Unfortunately, the tech support group is ME.

I've also tried installing the Deep Learning Model from the April download as admin.

And when I close out that window, I get an error message 1603.

Back to square one.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this? A similar question was asked here on the forum, back in 2023. I tried those options, but no luck.

Thank you.

@jetdv Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately, same result.

@Len Kaufman Hi, is any of this helpful.

When I open that file - Security all boxes are ticked. (I've blurred out my email)

& Google says -

network resources that is unavailable c drive?

AI Overview

The error "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" typically occurs during software installation or updates. It means the installer is trying to access files on a shared network drive that cannot be reached, likely due to network connectivity issues, permissions problems, or the shared drive being inaccessible.

Here's how to troubleshoot and fix this error:

1. Check Network Connectivity:

Verify network connection:

Ensure your computer is connected to the network and can access other shared resources.

Ping the server:

Try pinging the server or shared drive to confirm it's reachable. If pinging fails, there might be network issues between your computer and the shared drive.

Check firewall settings:

Make sure your firewall isn't blocking access to the shared drive. You might need to temporarily disable the firewall to see if that resolves the issue.

2. Check Permissions:

Review share permissions:

Ensure you have the necessary permissions to access the shared drive or the specific files the installer needs. You might need to contact the network administrator for assistance with permissions.

Run as administrator:

Try running the installer as an administrator to see if that resolves permission issues.

3. Use the Windows Installer Troubleshooter:

Download and run the troubleshooter: The Windows Installer troubleshooter can automatically detect and fix issues related to installations and updates. You can download and run the troubleshooter from Microsoft Support.

Follow the wizard: The troubleshooter will guide you through the process of fixing the issue.

4. Consider Alternative Paths:

Provide an alternative path:

If the installer prompts you to provide an alternative path, try locating the specific files the installer needs locally and provide that path.

Locate the installer locally:

If the installer is on a shared drive, try downloading the installer files to your local computer and running the installation from there.

5. Start the Windows Installer Service:

Run as administrator: Open an elevated command prompt (search for "cmd", right-click, and select "Run as administrator").

Start the service: Type net start MSIServer and press Enter.

Restart the installation: Try restarting the installation process after starting the Windows Installer service.

6. Contact Support:

If all else fails, contact IT support or the manufacturer's support for further assistance.

By systematically checking these areas, you should be able to pinpoint the cause of the error and resolve it.

@Gid Thank you for taking the time to post a response. I've tried pretty much all of the above except #6, to no avail, and also this part of #5 "Start the service: Type net start MSIServer and press Enter.. I'll try #6 now, and also the FaceBook Vegas Pro Editors page, though I believe many of the same people are on there as here. I spent a huge amount of time of this yesterday. 🙁

Looking at the error message recorded, I got this, which means nothing to me:

"UserName has Unicode chars: false
UserName length: 13
ComputerName has Unicode chars: false
ComputerName length: 15

Can anyone translate that for me?
