Error Msg -- File not saved: Plug-In Package ??

RedRob-CandlelightProdctns wrote on 2/11/2026, 6:59 PM

Working on a project today.

On an event, I modified the Pan/Crop and added "Deform" to fix a slightly off-center camera.

When Saving the Plug-In Chain as a Filter Package, an error box came up saying "File not saved: Plug-In Package" (and the chain didn't save in "Filter Packages").

What would cause this and how to fix?

@RedRob-CandlelightProdctns See my answer here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/fx-plugin-chooser-presets-can-t-be-deleted-or-renamed-vegas-23--150526/#ca947125

Meanwhile, the FX chain presets created by VP23 no longer supports DXT video FX (such as those FX that look very old).

Deform is a DXT plugin, so it cannot be saved by the FX chain feature of VP23.

I think an alternative method is to add it to an adjustment event and when you need it, open the old project containing the adjustment event and copy & paste it into the new project.

I'm not very fond of the FX chain feature of VP23 and hope Magix will change it back.

@RedRob-CandlelightProdctns Since Pan/crop can't be saved as a filter package, it makes no sense to save just the Deform setting as a Filterpackage. But you can save the Deform setting as a Deform preset.

That doesn't really explain the error, but I think @zzzzzz9125 covered that.

On your point -- thanks for pointing that out. For some [incorrect] reason I believed it'd save my custom pan/crop with the FX chain too, making it easy to punch into my 4K image while also applying a small correction on an event-by-event basis.

Unfortunately it's not possible to save an Pan/crop setting as an Filterpackage. Filterpackages are very useful, because they save also used keyframes, something that's not possible in pan/crop or in the FX directly.

"not possible" is different from "could be possible", yes? We know it IS possible to copy/paste pan/crop settings across events -- seems absolutely feasible that filter chain implementation could be enhanced to accommodate pan/crop with keyframes too, yes?

Pan/crop tool is not an FX like all other FX. Pan/crop tool is always present on each event and cannot be deleted. It only can be moved from beginning of the chain to another position in the chain. For example you could position the PIP FX before Pan/crop and use the PIP FX to do pan/crop animations. Those animations can be saved as Filterpackage for future use in other projects. Putting the PIP FX before Pan/crop has the advantage that it uses source resolution instead of project resolution.
