Error opening codec???

I get this message when Vegas opens a wave audio file, then doesn't create the peak files, what gives?

More information about where the file originated might help? What kind of wav is it? broadcast wave?

I captured using the creative recorder tool. It's a 44hz wav thats all I Know if you need more info, tell me where to look.
