error saving file "the template is invalid"

Mindmatter wrote on 10/11/2021, 11:42 AM

Hi all
as far as I remember, I used to be able to "open in Soundforge" from a Vegas clip, process the audio, save and return do Vegas with the processed audio then updated in Vegas.

But now, ( Sound Forge 14) I get the  "the template is invalid" error message, and I have no clue what it really means and what to do about it...

Thanks for any help!

Did you send your audio to SF using 'Open in Audio Editor' or 'Open Copy in Audio Editor' ?
The former opens the video as well and it gives this template error when saving back - maybe from trying to save the video as well? I can do 'save as' and select a .wav template and that works. 'Open Copy' opens only audio and that is ok, only need to click 'Save'.

Yes, "Open" launches SF with the entire (original) file in it's native format . OTOH, "Open Copy" creates a new PCM file of the event by default (as it should). In general, lossy audio formats should be avoided, except for end-user formats.
