I have done many different things to debug the problem. So far I have found that I can not burn to Rewriteable discs, regardless of brand, but can burn to write once discs.

I know that the drive is NOT the problem because if I try other burning software, it works fine.

I have also deleted NERO, just in case that was causing a conflict, but even with that software gone, DVDA is still pumping out the above message.

Everything seems to be pointing the problem at the SONY software.

Any fixes that anyone is aware of? DVDA should be able to do as it should.

I'm still banging my head against the wall trying to get this thing to work.

At this point, I completely uninstalled NERO, and I mean completely, registries and all.

Well, DVDA is STILL not burning to rewritable media.

Has nobody else got this problem?

No need / point in uninstalling Nero. It's a hardware problem. First, make sure you are using the latest firmware and driver for your burner.

If that doesn't help, reinstall Nero. Then prepare your project with DVD Architect and burn the resulting AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders to disc using Nero.

Then send a bug report to Sony.

Went through the process of doing as you suggest and this is what happened.

Sony says that they do NOT support DVDA running in VISTA 64 as DVDA is not designed for it.

WHAT'S WITH THAT???

Here is the generated message I got from Support. With it was a simple blurb that they will not answer my enquiry because they will not support DVDA running on VISTA 64. Anyways, here is what they claim is my problem, but I do NOT believe this.

Question
When trying to burn a DVD in DVD Architect, I get the error message: "The command failed due to a IOCTL error. Your interface or drive may be configured incorrectly." How do I fix this?

Answer
An IO Control or IOCTL (pronounced eye-octal) is likely a driver error from your DVD burner. If you've updated your drivers and software at the updates page and this problem still exists, you can try another media type, for instance change from + to - R, or try another brand of disc.

Is your DVD drive connected internally or externally (via Firewire)?

When your drive is connected externally:

If you are using an external Firewire drive and Windows XP Service Pack 2, then download and install this patch from Microsoft.

Try a different firewire port.

If your drive is connected internally:

Is there a second drive connected to the same cable? If there is another drive, is it a hard disk or another CD or DVD drive? You might be having a master/slave problem that only shows up during burning. Following up with your computer's manufacturer may be necessary in these cases if you are not trained in installing hardware.

As a workaround, you could also prepare the project in DVD Architect Studio and burn using the prepared files in another application, if you are able to.

If the problem persists, you may have to contact your drive or computer manufacturer for more assistance.
