Error when connecting device in video capture

I'm running MovieStudeo 3.0b and have just installed my Adaptec 4300 FireWire card. I'm running Windows 2000 Pro SP4 and upon checking in the device manager, it sees my card just fine and shows it to be running properly. The issue in Movie Studio is when I open the video capture window and then turn on my Sony DCR-HC30 handycam and get the below screen shot error message and the capture window has to close down. I have gotten this error every time. Can anyone give me any advice? Are there some settings I need to do? The driver for the card is current so that should not be the issue either and I have my hardware acceleration set to full.

Maybe turning off background progs would help. If you can get hold of EndItAll it saves having to do it manually.
Also try changing driver for card (from Texas to generic or v-v, w2k has this option but not xp). Enlarge your paging files to 3 times ram on each partition.
W2k has sp5 now.

Quarz.dll is part of ActiveX, so it might be worth switching your graphics acceleration off. If that works, see how high you can go before it starts giving problems. It might be worth reinstalling ActiveX if that doesn't work.

laz, I believe I've tried this with no other programs running, but I'll try again just to be sure. Where can I get an updated driver for the card? The most current driver is dated 1999 and I can't find a newer one anywhere (even via Microsoft's website).

And as for Windows 2000 SP5.....

IanG, you really think turning the hardware acceleration to none could fix this? I would think to captue video, I'd need to utilize all of the video. I'll give it a try.

I tried it again with limited programs running and also with the hardware acceleration turned down to none and I still get the same crash when attempting to connect to the camera.

Where can I get a fresh download of ActiveX? I've looked everywhere I can on the Microsoft website for it.

Oops - I'm realy sorry - I wrote ActiveX, but I meant DirectX! You can get it here.

Thanks IanG, I'll give that a try later and will update everyone here.

Well, I tried installing the latest DirectX, no dice and I tried pushing the hardware acceleration to none and still no dice. I'm not sure what else I can do.

Actually your video card and hardware acceleration have almost nothing to do with ... well ... video. I know that sounds strange at first, but they're designed for animation and 3D rendering. Video is just a bunch of still frames playing back rapidly or being transferred down firewire and on to the hard drive.

Do you have any other suggestions other than just uninstalling and reinstalling the software? I'm not having this problem with my system at work using FireWire, but I am at home. Also, and I believe I mentioned this already but I've checked in the Device Manager and the FireWire card shows to be working properly.
