my PC
AMD Quad core
8 gig of ram
TB hardrive
Microsoft lifecam cinema
Nvidia GEforce GT 430

When I try to capture video I get the following error consistently:

The specified video application will not open. c:\pathnames\vidcap60.exe

I have uninstalled ad reinstalled with no help. I don't have any apps running using the camera.

HELP!

You say "when I try to capture" -- which I assume means that your capture workspace opens just fine but the program fails when you try to use it to capture.

If that's the case and you are running Windows 7, have you ensured that your FireWire connection is using the legacy driver?

* Click Windows Start orb; type "device manager" into the Search box and select Device Manager (or launch Device Manager anyway you like)
* Swivel open the "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" item
* Right-click on your listed 1394 controller; select "Update Driver Software"
* Click the "Browse my computer for driver software" button, followed by the "Let me pick from a list" button
* Select the option that has "(Legacy)" at the end of the name; click Next and let the driver be installed
* Close out of dialogs and retry capture

c:\pathnames\vidcap60.exe sounds very suspicious. Generally vidcap60.exe would be found in something like

C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\Vegas Pro 9.0\vidcap60.exe

depending on what versions of Windows and Vegas you're using.

Personally, i usually do my capturing outside of Vegas. I put a shortcut directly to vidcap on my start menu so that i can launch it any time i want whether Vegas is running or not.
