Errors loading project files...

Ok, I'm doing my best not to vent my anger here...Almost everytime I save my project, the next time I go to open it, I get this,

"An error occurred while loading the project file sumthin.vf. The reason for the error could not be determined."

This happens at LEAST 50% of the time. I just saved one last nite, and when I go to open it now, I get this message. It isn't using files on a CD-ROM, they are all on the hard drive, and they haven't moved. They are all in the same directory. I'm using v2.0a.

Anybody know what the h-e- double hockey sticks is going on?????

Previously you mentioned you had tried to update Version 1, with the Download update. Have you since loaded Version2 and did you uninstall Version 1?

Yep, version 1 is gone, and I saved this project file with v2, but now it won't load it. Do you know of the possibilities that could cause this problem? Maybe one will strike a chord? ;) After all, the error message doesn't help me at all, saying the problem can't be determined!

In fact, and I forgot to mention this earlier, this also happened before version 2, with version 1. I don't know if its something I'm doing, or a bug. The reason I don't think its my fault, is because the one thats doing it now, I just saved last nite. I go to open it today, and get this error. I didn't do anything else in between that time!

I wouldn't have too many guesses, but is there something that might be corrupting the file when you shut your computer down? Is there a possibility that another program is using the same extension and is writing to the file?

You can check your extension list and see if another file is writing to it. Another possibility might be if you have some remnants of Version 1 in the registry.

Maybe someone else has some ideas. Hope you get it fixed!!

Not a solution, just a comment.

It seems many "problems" are related to duplicate/corrupt/incorrect/missing Registry entires. Video Factory being a complex application spawns all kinds of Registry "keys" which as I've seen with my long running registration problems cause untold frustration and weird program behavior.

What Video Factory DESPERATELY needs in a uninstall feature that completely cleans up after itself. Clearly at present it does not and with literally scores of Registry entries all over the place strange things sometimes happen.

Thanx guys, I'll check out the registry and see if 1.0 has any "leftovers." ;) But like I said, this has happened before with 1.0, before 2.0, and now it happens right after saving the file. Doesn't make much sense. I've had to re-edit the same video 3 times now. It would appear I'm going to have to complete my edit, and render, in one day, without closing the program, or I'm screwed and have to start over, at least until the problem is solved.

I wuz hoping that maybe someone else had this problem, and overcame it, thus helping me out. Oh well. I'll edit it again, and save to a new file, and see what happens. Just for the record, I've scanned the hard drive (scandisk), and defragged, so if it happens after fixing the registry (providing I can do that), then I guess all is lost! :(

Thanx again for the suggestions!

Can't offer solutions either...but sympathy. I haven't added any new versions of Video Factory; but I have had the same problem. I cannot think of any reason why! I am having to restart an entire project when all I needed to finish was a few touch-ups. I too would love an answer.
