Absolutely - and not to tout my old editing system - but you could Pan AND Crop at the same time - AND apply EVENT track motion - and all seemed to make sense and work well - but with only having Track Motion available in Vegas for moving the image around to various positions, I am having a hard time with that workflow in Vegas - and I have to think there has to be an easier way - but the manual isn't helping - cause it says use track motion - and I have not seen an easy way to use track motion with the option of future adjustments that come up all the time in edits.... and I am thinking I must be missing the boat somewhere - it has to be easier than how I am doing it using keyf rames in tracks....

DaveM2,

Maybe I am confused, but you can move the image around with PAN and CROP the same as TRACK MOTION. Is that what you are questioning? It sounds like you are saying that you can only move the image with Track Motion, which isn't the case.

You might be hitting on something here that I am not understanding. Using Pan/Crop - I can adjust the image that is viewed on screen - crop it - but I have not been able to MOVE the cropped image to a different position on the screen unless I then use the track motion. Am I missing something here ?

I can CROP the image with Pan/Crop, and then move it to a different position with track motion - or I can Pan the full image (reduced in size, but not cropped) in PAN/CROP, but I can't do both.

So that is why I have been using Pan/Crop to Crop the image and Track Motion to place it or pan it where I want it to be.

Okay, now I understand. No, you can't do both at the same time using just Pan and Crop, but under Pan and Crop, you also have a MASK feature. This allows you to crop the pic how you want and then position it.

sorry I was confused.

Yes, that's correct. Once you've reduced the cropping frame to be smaller than the image you've lost the ability to place the image where you want it in the project frame.

That's why Pan & Crop really ought to be separable into two tools.

Yes - that is what I am trying to work around. That is what floors me with Vegas - why is that so hard ? This is version 8 I am using - and it is the same as far as I know if version 9. That is why I keep thinking I must be missing something here. I hate to say it but it seems a step backwards in editing. How can such an advanced program not have that feature ?

So I am thinking there is something in the program that works around this issue. Is there not ? The mask feature may be the answer for me - I just am not familiar with using it. I think I need to explore that more. And DaveT2 told me about that several weeks ago.
