events rendered in AVI. distort when cropped

~in VMS4 when i render an event in avi. then bring it back on the timeline and crop it, it has an undesireable distorted ripple looking effect in places. i rendered a snippet and brought it into DVDA2 where it previews the same way. very dissappointing. will it burn that way? can you not crop a rendered event brought back into VMS?

consider the source of your video. what was the quality and type? was it mpeg rendered to avi then back to mpeg? you lose something doing that. also preview may not always tell the tale. I would go ahead and produce the dvd and leave final assessment there. It may be much ado over nothing. preview can fool you - especially if you have made any modification. another thing to consider is the tiniest amout of vertical gausian blur to smooth the edges - do a search here with key word gausian blur for more info.
