Just thought I would raise a few points regarding VP17. Just finished assembling 8 or so Veg projects with 1000 clips from my recent holiday. Started with VP16 but moved to 17 when it came out.
I mainly use the following:
Stabilisation typically to take out small rotation
Levels filter
Pan/crop to level the horizon when needed
Some transitions rarely, (fade & iris)
VP17 colour correction panel (do love this)
Clips: Sony 4K XAVCS rendered to Blu-Ray using Sony template
Feedback:
1. No crashes (except the legacy stabilizer on a few clips), solution use the new which has never caused a crash. VP17 very stable on my set up (i5 at 4.08GHZ, 16GB ram, ssd + normal HD, GTX1080TI). Lucky me has not had the issue with thumb nails on timeline clips, I have them on full (tried all combinations which made no difference).
2. Long project load, 3+ mins when using so4compundplug, 1min load using compoundplug (fine for me as only have AVC).
3. My layout docks windows so mediafx and other plugins replace the main media window, however it soon changes so the effects window appears together with the media window half & half. Why does it do this? I have to undock the effects window and re-dock which stays fine for a short while before going back to the split.
4. Colour grading panel. I just use the curves. The panel loads with last time use setting so you need to reset first every time. Also sometimes the correction is not active so you need to come out move the cursor in the clip, go back in to make changes have effect. this has happened a few times.
5. AC3-Pro, I have it working in VP16 but will not work in VP17 - crashes Vegas. Tried a few things with config, swapping faulting modules around but no go. Compared AC3-Pro with AC3 studio and quality is slightly better with AC3-Pro - I can hear it. Is there anything that Blu-Ray supports that is better than studio? Could I paste the sound tracks to VP16 render with AC3-Pro instead, or will nested timeline thing be useful to allow VP16 to deal with sound. (I bet your going to say get over AC3-Pro and just use studio!)
6. I have compared the GPU encoding of VP17 with Resolve 16 and Power Director 14 and they all use 11% GPU when previewing 4K on the time line. VP17 looks best and performes best when using Preview Full (using Proxy).
Overall I am liking VP17 so far (excluding AC3-Pro)
Thanks to Marco and vkmast for solving my issue with scripting to re-combine vid & audio - now working correctly.
