Hi, I have been experimenting with trying to get the best look for a DVD using hdv footage. I was seeing a lot of interlacing zigzag outlines that I didn't like. Really I have spent about 2 days just working on this...downloading apps, rendering one way or another, reading the forums and so on.
In the past, I always downconverted from the camera until I read here about converting within Vegas being better.
Anyway, I think I have what I want, but I am not sure I am going about it the right way (if there is a right way). I have burned a DVD with several examples, and this is what looks the best:
I used HDV Split to capture the clips
put clips on timeline in Vegas
set file properties to HD 1080-60i (1920 x 1080, 29.970 fps) but with field order as none and rendering quality...good...gaussian...and none for deitnerlace method
I did my editing (granted I only used about 6 short clips so the file was small....motion was somewhat choppy in playback while in Vegas)
I rendered to Mainconcept mpeg2 with DVD Architect 24p NTSC Widescreen as template
I changed video rendering quality to Best and left all other settings to the template
Brought it into Architect...didn't do anything else to it. Burned the DVD and it looks really good with no interlacing problems. Movement very nice and smooth.
Just wanted to share my experiment.
