Explorer Tab - Tree View

MUTTLEY wrote on 6/5/2010, 9:17 AM
I'm sure something simple is eluding me here but haven't had this one before. In Vegas in the Explorer Tab up till now I've always had it as Tree View which was a split screen with the Windows Explorer Tree view on the left and the contents of the folder on the right. Somehow I've managed to loose the left side with the tree view and now only see the contents in the lower part of the tab which can only be navigated by a drop down explorer on the top of the tab.

Anyone know what I musta hit on accident so I can get it back to the way it was?

If you haven't found the problem yet, can you post a screen shot Ray? I'm not sure what you mean by "only see the contents in the lower part of the tab which can only be navigated by a drop down explorer on the top of the tab. " --- What's a drop down explorer on the top of the tab?" - Paul

Did you try toggling View/Explorer on and off? Or resetting your View/Windows Layout to the default?

Yea, tried that but didn't fix it. Here's a screen gab of what it should be (still there in Vegas 8) and what it shouldn't be (because I probably changed some setting somewhere!)

Screengrabs

And the "drop down explorer" I only was referring to the drop down that is at the top of the Explorer tab where in the left one it says "Artbeats Film Clutter" and the right one it says "Ray Cam".

Ray it looks to me like your TREE VIEW check mark is not doing the job. The Explorer window is acting like it is not checked. Have you tried toggling that check mark? I can't find where that setting is kept. If you uncheck TREE VIEW then it will remain unchecked even if you close and reopen Vegas. So the setting is stored somewhere! I could not find any control file that stores this setting. It must be done in the registry. I looked but could not locate it in the registry. Might be one of those settings that is strictly in binary and impossible to spot. I don't believe there is any preference for this or internal Vegas setting. I couldn't find it. Did you try checking and unchecking the other view options, like "details" etc. Do they work as they should?

This is really strange. Must be annoying !!
Last resort would be a de-install and re-install of Vegas 9.0e.

Oh trust me Paul, I've checked and unchecked everything that can be checked at least ten times! And yea, it does make navigating around and finding stuff a wee bit more difficult. Grrr, thanks for looking.

I have just compared yours to mine. And that's exactly the View you get when when ALL the options are switched off, even though you have elected for only the Summary View.

Also you are missing several identifying graphic lines: Active "View" selection Icon is not highlighting; a missing faint blue Pane line; sculptured frame borders between this pane and your mixer pane; generally a lack of border detail.

What happens when you keep clicking on the Icon? DO you get a "roll-through" of Explorer Views? Have you latest version? Have you recently reinstalled? - There is definitely something screwy with the drawing of the graphics. This reminds me of the Toolbar Icons going AWOL in previous versions of Vegas. I had a reminder of this last week.

I thought it would be simple to find what was being set/cleared with the procmon utility (sysinternals). Toggling through the options for the view modes does not seem to update anything in either a file or the registry. When you exit Vegas9, it is incredible the number of registry entries it twiddles with - many of them binary. I was hoping it would be obvious what it was setting, but not the case. There are two files down in
C:\Documents and Settings\Mikey\Application Data\Sony\Vegas Pro\9.0 - explorerFavorites.txt and keyboard.ini that I thought might be it, but neither of them have any info in it on my machine. I would go with the other suggestion it is a binary registry key that is getting set (and there are a bunch). Sorry - I figured it would be simple to identify where that was being stored.

Well I guess I should be partly grateful that it wasn't something simple and obvious, would have bet I just clicked something and was missing it.

Grazie, if I click the Views icon it just shuffles through the other ones but the tree never comes back. And I've got 9.0e (Build 1147). To my knowledge this was working as recent as a few days ago, have been editing a lot here lately and would have noticed it. Haven't done any installing lately either, no clue where things went awry.

Well boooo, I hate uninstalling/reinstalling. Hope it fixes it. Nothing worse than going through all that and having the issue not resolve, we'll see.

Just to update, reinstall worked, still don't make sense to me but I'm back to normal.

Thanks all.
