Export from Lightworks -import into Vegas Pro

Werner_NOR wrote on 7/5/2024, 3:19 AM

I have been trying Lightworks for the last year, in addition to Vegas Pro 2020 and Davinci Resolve. I think I will not renew my subscription to Lightworks when it expires, but as I have some projects there, I would like to export them to Vegas.

The export formats I have available in Lightworks are AAF,EDL, Film Cutting List, OMF, Reaper, Subtitles and XML.

I have tried the xml option, with both FXPX format and FCP7 V5.

When I try to import the project (timeline) into Vegas Pro I get a log with various errormessages.

Isnt this supposed to be automatiic?

Any suggestions on how to get the project/timelines into Vegas Pro would be appreciated.

Best regards

Werner

You will most likely need to rebuild your projects from scratch in Vegas.

As Mark-y said, Vegas does not play well with others. I would try to print out your edits and then reproduce in Vegas.

If your Lightworks project contains Lightworks native FX, those FX are unlikely to be received well by Vegas Pro. Maybe try creating a new renamed Lightworks project and remove ALL Lightworks FX/dissolves/etc and then try an XML export and import into Vegas Pro.

Also, try as a last resort to copy Lightworks timeline (Ctrl-A and then Ctrl-C) and paste (Ctrl-V) it onto Vegas Pro's timeline. It might work but equally it may not. Oherwise, its more than likely a case of starting again in Vegas Pro as suggested just before by mark-y.

As you all said, I would probably need to rebuild the projects in Vegas. I thought of importing the project as an mp4-file, put it into the timeline and use the 'detect scenes and split' function. This works quite fine, but you get no link to the original files.

So in the end I tried Davinci Resolve and was able to import the xml-file there. I had to relink the media, but this solution worked. I guess I can re export this to Vegas, but as it only some small projects, I do not think I will bother. I will just keep them in Resolve.

Thanks for your comments.
