use the "save image" button in the preview window.

Search the help also, some other screen capturing options in there too.

Make sure preview is set to Best / Full before saving the still.

There's no need to reinsert - if the still is in the Timeline, making and saving a change to that file will automatically flow through to the timeline.

The button isn't hightlighted so I can't. You guys are talking about the "save snapshot to file.." button right?

It won't be highlighted if you're previewing on an external monitor. You have to be using the preview window in Vegas for it to work.
