Extended wait when Vegas returns to the foreground.

When I task-swap in Windows to copy a file for a project, I bring Windows Explorer to the foreground. When I return to Vegas, all media are shown offline and the project media list is greyed out. This situation persists while I am waiting for the computer to catch up, but returns to normal after 30 seconds or so. During this time I have learnt not to make any inputs as Vegas often crashes.

My PC is fairly well spec'd but I still end up waiting for extended, unproductive periods. My Windows page file is currently set to 4684mb. Is there any way I can tweak the PC to improve this performance?

Panasonic HDC-X1500 I use .MOV output of 2160p-50 at 150M

I stabilise the footage whete needed with Mercalli saving to mp4 AVC for edit

In Options/Preferences, try unchecking "Close Media Files when not the active application". On a large project, I had a wait time of around 80 seconds - unchecking the above option got rid of the wait time.

Then Dexcon's answer is the solution? There's a button for that...

Only my second visit here..... but so there is! Not actually a button but a menu option hidden in the 'More' options.

As the majority of questions will have an answer perhaps the 'Tag As Solution' could be a little more obvious?

Edited to add: When replying using a tablet device the 'Edit' + 'Tag as solution' icons do not appear for some reason. On a desktop PC they are unmissable. It appears I am easily confused!
