External Hard Drive

Ok, getting ready to upgrade from VF2c, which has worked well on my 30gb internal drive after the VF forum got me through some PTT problems. THANKS GRAZIE! Got my packaged VV3, got a new USB2/Firewire PCI (for an Inspiron 8200), got a 120gb Maxtor 7200rpm. Any models on how to configure the drive, folders and files organization, on the external (exclusive use, dv storage)? VV3 will be installed with the OS on C drive.

Gotcha! - Thanks for the Thank You, Grob. What file system do you run? - Check out what your C: is running on - yes? Your Maxtor will not necessarily be set-up as the same as your C: drive. I'm not a specialist concering how these or others drives are formatted.

Okay:

On C: Drive
1 - VV Project Files

On External Drive:
2 - Capture Directory
Separate folders in this for different project Captures

3 - Render Directory
Separate folders in this for different project Renders

Okay . . . there are some other/more functionality in Vegas that I've needed to set-up separate folders etc. Have a look see on the VV menus . . . You will come across "Prerender for Preview" - try and stick this somewhere other than the C: - I've not done this yet . . .still on my C: drive.

Have fun . .. .

Grazie

Here you are again, guiding me out of the fog. Do the "normal" precautions apply in using the external, i.e., nothing running in the background on C, can you and do you defrag the external regularly? What fun! Grob

Hiyah!

1 - "Do the "normal" precautions apply in using the external, i.e., nothing running in the background on C," Well yes - I've been experimenting with how much stuff I can get away with without System crashes. You can never have nothing running in the background. SYSTRAY is a MUST! I don't know XP - if that's what you are running - but with WinME I do disable any anti-virus ware AND disconnect the Broadband - yes?

2 - "can you and do you defrag the external regularly?" Well yes . . I've seen posts arguing for defrags after completing projects - seems like a really good idea

Keep the Faith! Us INspies need to keep together . . . lots of other schlaptops here.
