External Monitor Ideas?

HELP! :-)

Anybody have any tips on utilizing an External Video Monitor via a S-Video TV-Out from my video card? I don't seem to be able to figure out how to get VV to see it as a device. The only thing I see is my OHCI 1394 DV Device and Video for Windows Standard.

My Video card is the ASUS V8460 NVidia Ti4600 with a S-Video TV Out and the TV Monitor is a Panasonic CT-1384Y with a S-Video input. Right now the video card sees it as just another monitor (but with TV resolution of course)

THANKS!!

Did you try setting up your "Nvidia Desktop Utilities" for multi display functionality?
Look for that in the display properties/advanced/"Ti4600" or something/Additional properties/desktop utilities.
Once that is set up, you might see something show up in the "Device" drop down window for external Monitor. If not, try using the "Video for Windows" option.

I'm assuming this is a Dual Head video card?

Set cam to VCR/VTR mode also.

Have you tried external monitor out using the firewire to camera/camera to TV method?

I'm glad you asked this salad; that's the method I've been using but would like to find another option (to not use my camera). Can you recommend some kind of stand alone converter?
TIA,
Randy

I use the Canopus ADVC-100 and can highly recommend it.

Very good recommendation since the dual monitor output video cards
are stuck in the same display mode unless you have a Matrox video card.
Way back in this forum are wonderful explanations of external monitor
setups.

does canopus do scan conversion to record output?

I need recomnedations for a scan converter

oddboy: it's not really a scan converter, so you can't use it to record anything you see on VGA onto tape. But it will work exceedingly well at allowing you to print to tape from Vegas or Vidcap. It also lets you use the firewire port as a preview monitor output.
