External monitor is acting really odd

I managed to sucessfully set up a feed from my PC -> Camcorder -> TV. But for some reason, the video being shown on the TV minitor is all wavy, and the color is screwed up. Why is this? All the connections are firmly in place to.

The wierd thing is, it only happens when I am streaming a project, but when I just drop a fully rendered AVI into the timeline by itself, and play it, it previews great. Any ideas?

Can you explain what, in this case, you mean by "streaming", In my book you stream over the web... streaming does not have anything to do with previewing your video through a firewire camera.

Sorry I can't help you with your problem... but maybe a clarification will allow a better understanding of what is going on.

Sorry, I meant "streaming" as a loose term for feed through the cables, due to the fact that it's non-rendered video. I'm not a professional, only a hobbyist, so please don't hold it against me :) Anyway, what happens is that when I play the project (unrendered) from the timeline, and it goes through the camcorder to the TV, the tv displays it as wavy. By this I basically mean that its almost like what you would get if you were using a TV with an antenna, that is not quite tuned to the desired channel. (I corrected the color by the way, so thats one problem down). I don't know much beyond that, because I checked all the connections and everything is secure. I am running an AMD 64 3200+ w/ a gig of Ram and a Radeon 9800 graphics card if that helps at all.

It sounds like you're trying to export via some graphic card. Right?

If true, that's your problem. For best results you should go computer to firewire card to camera (or any analog to digital converter) to your external monitor.

OK. That explanation does help.

So to confirm what you are saying..this issue only occurs when you are previewing frames that require rendering. That is on the preview monitor you get the message (Frame Recompressed)?

This is indeed a VERY strange problem and I can offer little to suggest what the problem is. If you have any friend with another camcorder I would recommend at least trying theirs to see if it is a problem with the camcorder. .

Something else to check...

Be sure your preview quality is set to Best-Full to get a good view on your external monitor.

I beat my head against the wall before I realized that this setting affected the external monitor preview as well as the Vegas video panel preview.

This setting makes a huge difference. Yes, it will be a little slow and choppy, depending on what you are viewing, but for things like stills, this is what is needed.
