External Monitor Problem Platinum 14

Rosk wrote on 2/22/2017, 5:31 PM

I just upgraded to Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 14 from Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13. I have been using the same external monitor (Vizio Flat Screen with HDMI) for over a year. The new software external monitor image is square and does not fill the monitor screen. I'm not finding an answer using the help index.

Any thoughts?

Update: The external monitor feature has stopped working altogether. I've tried 2 monitors with no luck.

The external monitor continues to work fine with Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13.

UPDATE: External monitor image is now back to a cut off square image. 2/23/2017

What version of Windows? If it's Windows 7, try installing .NET Framework 4.6.2.

What graphics card do you have? Try updating or rolling back the driver via Windows Update or the Manufacturer's website or via Nvidia/AMD website.

I am using the Lenovo Y-50 Laptop with Windows 10.

Intel Core i7

16GB RAM

15.6" FHD 1920x1080 Display

NVidia GeForce 960M 4GB

Another interesting thing I noticed today: I am able to use my Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13 and Magix Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 14 software at the same time. I opened a project named "Waterfall" in both versions of the software, then stopped them on the same frame and took a picture of the external monitor of each. Notice the image from Platinum 14 is shifted to the right and cutting off the right side of the frame and leaving a blank area on the left side of the monitor.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for getting back to me.

What Nvidia driver version are you using? See this thread and the thread linked to in my comment there: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/latest-nvidia-drivers-378-66-may-break-preview-window-in-vegas-pro--105688/

Hello Nick,

The driver version installed in my Laptop does not match the one mentioned in your message. I went ahead and rolled it back anyway but it made no difference with monitor issue. I reinstalled the latest driver.

Thanks again, I appreciate your help very much.

If Lenovo provide drivers for your exact model of laptop through their support site, try the latest one from them (if you're not already) rather than Windows Update or the Nvidia site.

Then I would try working through the steps in this post, which apply to Movie Studio as well as Vegas Pro: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-troubleshooting-crashing-and-stability--104785/ In particular it would still be worth installing .NET framework 4.6.2 anyway and repairing other versions of it per section 13. If you get to the end of that lot with no joy then be sure to submit a support request per section 23.

Hello Nick,

I tried the items on the list including the net framework 4.2.6 (I received a message that I already have this version or higher on my Windows 10 system). I contacted support a couple of days ago and they emailed me back with a support ticket number. I sent them the same updates I've posted here but I have not heard from them regarding possible fixes yet.

Thanks again for your help.

Hello Jonathan-Nicole,

OH MY GOD, YOU FIXED IT!!!

I don't know who you are but thank you so much, this problem was driving me crazy.

Here is your fix in English.

Go to C / program / vegas / movie platinium studio 14 / once in the Vegas folder on the program icon press the right mouse clicks and select property then switch to Windows compatibility mode 8 and check the box do not adjust the scale of the windows in high resolution and check also run as administrator ... After that the second reference screen will work properly.

Thanks again!

Hello Nick,

You are right.

I guess because his instructions were more specific as to how to make the change is what did the trick.

Before this came up I had no idea what "Compatibility Mode" even means let alone know how to make the settings changes. His instructions spelled out clearly how to do it ie: Go to here, then right click this, then click this and so on. Looking back I should have asked you what #16 means and how do I do it?

Again Nick,

Thanks for your help.

Actually #16 only refers to the compatibility mode and not to the 2 other items that are part of jonathan-nicole's solution. So it probably wouldn't have fixed the problem for you anyway. :)

The solution yes and no ... The manipulation fix the problem of the external monitor but after some window of the Platinum 14 no longer displayed correctly in 4k monitor. Some window yes other no ,Yet movie studio 13 does it well on the same machine......It is a window adjustment problem with win10....A bug finally..I have already lost too much time to find the problem of movie studio 14..I want to complete my work not rule the problems of adjustment of ms14...I am really disappointed I give again news if I find the solution.
