External Monitor problems and playback rate question

I, like many others here (and at creativecow.net), have problems with playing back in an external monitor. The problem is jitter/jumpy/stutter - whatever you want to call it. I'm playing DV clips with no effect and I've tried playing them from the timeline, mediapool, trimmer and explorer but the jitter is always there. The other issue is as it's playing on external Sony PVM14N6U monitor the picture goes to back intermitently. I'm not sure what's causing the black because I had the external monitor feature working without that yesterday (clips were still jittering, though). Is there some kind of buffer setting I've looked over? Why would I have any issues with straight DV clips? I can't be playing back stuff with jitter while a client is hovering...

Another question is about playback rate. I can drop a clip in the trimmer and get full 29.97 playback yet then put that clip into the timeline and get somewhere around 24-27ish playback rate. What gives here??

THANKS FOR ANY INSIGHTS YOU CAN THROW MY WAY!!

It's starting to sound like it is XP. Or it could be Direct X 8.1. Don't know if you can load the older two part Direct X 8.0a on XP. Might be worth a try. Also check and see if you can get your OHCI card onto it's own IRQ when in the first PCI slot. But why does it play in the trimmer ok. Weird.

Is the "Level" for the video track at 100%?
