External monitoring with Intensity Pro 4K

Anthony-Keane wrote on 8/16/2022, 1:48 PM

I have just purchased Vegas Edit after using Edius. (I notice the forums/official support only list "Vegas Pro" as a section).

I can see an output in Edius but not in Vegas Edit. The choice in Vegas Edit is "Decklink" rather than Intensity Pro 4K - but I think they are effectively the same thing.

I have set the output device in Preferences/Preview Device.

I wonder where I am going wrong. (I have power recycled the desktop but to no avail).

VEGAS doesn't require specialized output cards, but it does support many of them... I'm just not sure about that specific model. Most of us just use the other DP/HDMI outputs on our GPU. You can still do 10+ bit, HDR, etc. that way in VEGAS.

Ignore the confusing naming, VEGAS Pro Edit is VEGAS Pro, just with less third party stuff bundled in with it.

Thanks for that but it would be a last resort as the Blackmagic card is more accurate for colour grading

VP17-19 work fine with IP4K. Will post settings when back on machine. Sys 1 in signature.

Not using latest IP4K driver. 12.2 from memory. Had problems with latest driver so rolled back.

Thanks for that. Haven’t got round to posting specs yet.

There should be no difference in the signal passed through. In fact, in VEGAS, if you want to do HDR, you have to use the GPU output, the BM card won't work.

I’ll give it a try.

Anthony-Keane wrote on 8/16/2022, 4:48 PM

I gave it a try. Identify shows monitors 1,2,3. Capture shows 4 windows - the intensity and the 3 monitors. I can move a windows explorer folder between all 3 monitors but I cannot manage to get a preview on either the Blackmagic card or on monitor 3 via the GPU. Closing down Vegas and immediately Testing Edius with the same setup works in both instances. Disappointing as a first impression of Vegas Pro Edit 20

Sorted! I assumed that if I set up the preview output in Preferences then Vegas would use it. But it doesn’t! An internet search showed that you have to tell it to then put out the preview externally -

Alt+Shift+4 or the icon above the interface preview window. Sigh of relief!

fr0sty wrote on 8/16/2022, 5:09 PM

You have to tell VEGAS which monitor to use for full screen preview. Go into VEGAS options>preferences>preview device. There is a drop down menu in there that lets you select which monitor you want VEGAS to preview full screen on. Then you must click the full screen preview button next to the preview monitor (or press alt+shift+4) to toggle full screen external monitor preview.

Lol, looks like you found it before I could finish typing. Good, happy editing.

Fastest finger first! (To coin a phrase). Thanks for your help. I found a PDF online for Vegas 18 manual. Couldn’t find one for 19 or 20. Do they exist, I wonder?

fr0sty wrote on 8/16/2022, 6:44 PM

Not sure, but check in VEGAS hub, they have some tutorials in there.

Will do - but not this late at night.😀
