External Preview fails on first boot ????

Howdy...

Here's a fairly interesting problem. I have Vegas 6c on an AMD 4400 X2, using a Sony DSR-11 to preview the footage.

I have noticed that on my first boot of the morning, doing nothing other than launching Vegas which then loads the last project I was working on, when I play the video, it will show up on the external monitor for around 5 seconds, then briefly show a white screen, and then go blank. This happens every time I press play.

Shuttling around the project results in a delay of around 3 seconds before anything shows up on the external monitor...

Then, if I shut down and reboot, changing nothing else, lauch Vegas again, it seem to work normally, previewing with no issues...

Strange problem. Any thoughts?

Best,

Ben

Could be a zillion of things. But thinking about what happens to a pc after switch off - over night - is that it cools down. PCs get hot at least they warm up. I'm thinking of a "dry" joint somewhere that when heat has accumulated enough it heat and the "loose" connection is made "good". Dunno, maybe pull out all the plugs and re-seat them? Could be a loose "dry" joint within the monitor? Maybe the monitor is going on the blink?

Others will have a better stab at the s/w <> h/w thing .. but me, I'll be testing the monitor first. If I get the same then I'd work backwards.

Here's another thought - something screwing with your screen saver? Screen saver? ExtMon? Grazie have a word with yerself!!

Yuck! Icky icky one this ..

I cant see what system you have but I have had similar probs with a firewire sound card and external monitor. Now have switched to usb2. If you have a firewire sound card, try booting without it.

I had a fa101 and have seen that others have had probs with fw410 in this forum

No other firewire devices on the bus...

I don't think it's a heat issue, as it's very consistent. I'll try some other things too, but it's only an annoyance at this point.
