External Preview VS Screen Preview

Folks,

I have this DV file I just captured that is of a Black & White movie. There is some chroma noise so I thought I would use the "Black & White" filter. While previewing on an external monitor (Firewire DV device) I noticed that when I apply a track plugin, the picture loses a LOT of clarity. Then I tried a bunch of different plugins and they all do it. I returned to previewing on screen and I cannot see any difference in clarity when I engage a plugin.

Is this a known bug? Will the final render be OK? What is going on here?

Try setting the Video Preview to "Display at Project Size" and "Good" quality. I think what is happening here is that when you have no filter applied, the DV is getting passed through the the external monitor, but when you apply a filter, Vegas is doing processing and then sending the frame out. If your Video Preview is not set as I suggested above, it's not using full-sized frame data for it's processing, and you are therefore seeing the quality go down. If you use these settings, everything should look great.
