External TV monitor

My external monitor is fed from a Black Magic IP4K and permanently connected.  I can see reason if the 'monitor' is connected via GPU / iGPU and can be used as a second windows screen but when fed from IP4K it can only be used as a TV monitor.   Returning to Vegas after using Edius & Davinci I find it strange having to switch to my external monitor via the toggle above the preview window. Surely once an external device is selected via 'prefs' it should be available without the need to toggle the preview window.

Advantage of the iGPU is maintained whether monitor is on or off. It appears that the iGPU port just needs terminating into TV HDMI port
