Im lagging uncontrollably hard even on 1280x720 and the preview is 160x90 PC: I5-13600k Rtx 4070ti super 32gb ram I tried many settings in the preference tab, but whenever I use mp4 or Mkv files the program melts down completly. Im using Vegas pro 23
@xytre We have very similar hardware.
Try the defaults in preferences.
Then try to re-encode your MP4/MKV file using a tool like ShutterEncoder (output format h264, advanced settings GOP set at your media framerate) or Handbrake (production standard preset, keyint= your media framerate). Replace the media in VEGAS and it should play well.
I already tried ShutterEncoder output 264 to mp4 and it got slightly better but still annhilates the entire program, same with Handbrake but Handbrake doesnt makes the program shut down entirily. Here the problem in detail. I have linked a video
What does "annhilates the entire program" mean? I know this works as I have the same CPU and a similar GPU and use ShutterEncoder for troublesome media.
Use the exact settings I recommended paying attention to the GOP/keyframe interval.
Try to avoid MKV as some variants work okay but many are not well suited for editing. If you use OBS you can remux to MP4 right in the program.

By annhilating I meant that I liretally couldnt even stop the preview while it was still going but thank you so much, I resetted the settings and it solved the problem. Cheers ❤️✌️
