Extremely basic question

I have on several occassions captured video with scene detection on then dragged a few clips to timeline. Sometime I find that the video for each clip are grouped & sometimes they are not. By this I mean I can drag a clip on the timeline to either the right or left or press delete & that the audio associated with the video will have the same things happen to it. Sometime this doesn't happen & all clips are independant with the audio & video acting seperately. I thought that the default situation was for all audio/video pairs to be attached to one another. Is this not the case or is there some setting that I have to turn on?

You have to be careful about what is selected. The fact that the audio and video are grouped by default only means that they will move together. You can still delete one and leave the other. You just have to get use to the behavior. If you want to move them, you can drag one or the other, but if you want to delete them, make sure both are selected.

Check the setting of the "ignore event groupings" button which think is on the toolbar by default.
