Fade a line of text by character

Colin Basterfield wrote on 8/26/2015, 10:47 PM
Hi,

I've created a ticker tape, like CNN

On the left I have the name of a poem, e.g. Pursuit which is static. I've created text media of each line that moves in from off the screen on the right and stops just to the right of the poem's title.

I would like it to appear to be disappearing underneath the poem's title rather disappear when it reaches its stop point as above.

e.g. Pursuit What do I care that the stream is trampled

meaning each word fades out as it gets to where What is above, or is there another way to make it disappear underneath Pursuit, but still with the space it has above, so for example trampled disappears there also?

Any thoughts?
Many thanks in advance
Cheers
Colin

ah, now I'm adding the subsequent sentences, I see they aren't moving in at the same rate as the one before...

I figured I'd put each line on a different track rather than end to end on the same track, so there wouldn't be a space before the next line appeared...

yikes, this could turn into a saga...

:-)

Try something like this. Created in Vegas Pro 13.

Hi John,

That works great.

Thank you so much.

I have a couple of questions.

I can make the movement smoother by changing the keyframes to smooth?

How did you make the pngs?

What did you do to the Pursuit png, or the video track to turn the left hand side black. I think I've done something with GIMP 2.8.2 to do this, but I have a memory like a sieve.

Thanks John for your help
Cheers

"How did you make the pngs?"
In the Vegas project I set the Preview to Best / Full and saved a .png file from the text on the timeline. In Photoshop or your favorite photo editor, delete the right side of the screen to a transparent background with the feather set to 100. Replace the generated media with the png.

"What did you do to the Pursuit png, or the video track to turn the left hand side black."
With the ProType Titler track on top, insert a Black Generated Media track underneath. You'll have white text on a black background when the snapshot is saved.

"I can make the movement smoother by changing the keyframes to smooth?"
I'm not sure. In my project there was only a keyframe at the start of the event and it the last frame of the event. Changing the timing of the movement will probably affect the smoothness.

Hi John,

I figured out how to get GIMP to do what you suggested. The feather doesn't seem to be as cool as yours.

How do you drop box something, so I could send you my sample project?

Thanks so much for such prompt replies.
Colin :-)

Go to www.dropbox.com and create an account. Upload the project to your dropbox and share the link in a post here on the Sony forum.

Glad you're getting on with your project.

Hi John,

I have a dropbox account. I assume you created a specific directory so that was the only thing you shared? I'll give it a go later for the experience.

Thanks, John
