Fade Options on Clips Not Visible - Hidden by Composite Envelope

indy-p wrote on 3/25/2022, 8:18 AM

Hi,

Having used Vegas since version 10, this is the first time I am finding this issue a very frustrating problem.

I'm using Vegas Pro 19 (build 532) but this has been happening in previous builds as well.

The problem is when you hover over a video clip and you want to locate the fade tool/option on the top corner of the clip, while you have the Composite Level envelope on as well at the same time.

1. Each time I try to hover to locate the fade option, it shows me everything else but fade option.

2. I've tried it slowly, patiently etc. But still, it's hit/miss. Something that never used to happen before in prior versions.

3. The only way I've found it to work is to pull the Composite level envelope down, do my fades on a clip and then pull up the Composite level. This is a huge step back in terms of workflow and time.

Please see this link to a GIF file showing the problem.

(excuse the title of this link - it was automatically assigned by gfycat).

Please advise on how this can be fixed or corrected so the hover works correctly?

I can reproduce your problem. It is very difficult to use a Fade in events when an envelope is at the top. I believe that this occurs because there are several different parameters in the same region and there is a difficulty in interpreting which parameter should be highlighted.

A temporary workaround is to use the View/Show Envelopes option (Ctrl+Shift+E) which temporarily hides the envelopes. After applying your Fade just go again to View/Show Envelopes (Ctrl+Shift+E) to visualize the envelopes again.

@VEGASDerek Maybe this is of interest to you.

"3. The only way I've found it to work is to pull the Composite level envelope down, do my fades on a clip and then pull up the Composite level."

The easiest way to make it work is to double-click on the Composite Level line to add a pivot point and drag the level down to do the fade.

The moral of this story is: With the Track Composite Level function engaged, you don't need to find the fade handle.

HI @joelsonforte.br

Thanks for your suggestion. I can see your approach to this but again it means doing extra steps that I never had to in the past.

Has something changed in the way priority is given to the envelope over the clip?

@john_dennis

Yes. Of course, by using one or the other, it will work. However, having used Vegas for many many years, when this worked fine with both on, even in Vegas 14 and 18. It just seems something has changed.

So, thanks for your suggestions but am very open to any other 'settings' or options that might override one or the other.

It's not exactly the same but I have been experiencing a similar problem with audio envelopes on Vegas Pro's timeline for some years. If the audio volume envelope is reduced below 100%, the audio fade grab point at the beginning of the audio event is always at the top LH corner of the event, but the grab point at the end of that audio event is not at the top RH corner of the audio event, rather it is at the end of the audio envelope line - so if the audio envelope is reduced to 50%, the grab point for the end of the end of the audio event to create a fade is at the 50% point, not at the top RH corner. It used not to be this way many Vegas Pro versions ago.

@indy-p

Turn On Event Headers and the Fade Handle will be available right under the header at all times. I guess the default view got changed in Vegas Pro 19.

@john_dennis - looks like you are spot on! Thanks for finding this hidden change!

Mark the solution. If I take all my solutions and $5.15 down to Starbucks, I can get myself a tall Pike Place Roast. At least that's what it cost the last time I did that.

All you folks in Manhattan stop laughing. Been there, done that.

Glad you're working.
