Fades flickering

Hi guys,

i last posted about having a hard time getting to understand Studio RGB & Computer RGB, so it took me a while to finally get it but at least i got there in the end. When having multiple tracks on the timeline i now make sure to put imported media that's in Computer RGB (by checking scopes) onto the track track with Computer RGB to Studio RGB applied. Though i know it's a bit more complicated than that since it depends on what i render to as well.

What I've been doing is putting a track right at the bottom with a solid black colour using Insert Generated Media, and have that also in Studio RGB so that any media with transparency on tracks above it will stay consistent.

The issue I'm having currently is if i put another solid black colour above the rest of the tracks and use it for fades, there is a little bit of flickering during the fade if that black is also in Studio RGB like the bottom track. Anyone else see this?

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Only thing i can see in the scopes is that it looks like the blacks are jumping up and down very slightly.

If you apply your computer to studio RGB filter at the project level (using the fx button near the video preview monitor), you won't have to worry about applying it to individual tracks/media clips/events. One effect on the master bus does the trick. See if that helps with your issues. You won't have to use the solid black media then.

If i do that then i have to set all my studio RGB footage in the project to be computer RGB, otherwise it makes those parts too bright.

I tried doing a fade with a solid black media image and the scopes are showing it's fading from computer RGB to studio RGB.

Are there any other ways to do fades? I shouldn't be having this much trouble. I know i can do it by clicking the top sides of media files and dragging, but that's no good if i have a bunch of small media files and want a longer fade.

Rather than have your "black" media affected by levels, just make the black media correct at what is called "legal". Just change the black to match the black levels in the Studio RGB video.

3 ways to do a fade in Vegas:

1. Make media overlap. The length of the overlap is the length of your fade.

2. Drag the envelopes out from the upper corners of the media events.

3. Right click on the track, "insert remove envelope"> "composite level", then adjust that rubber band by adding points and moving it around to draw in your fades. This is how you fade out a bunch of events as if they were one.

You could also group mulltiple events into one using the project nesting capability, and do fades on the nested project.
