Fading across video and audio

Is it possible to create one fade across all tracks in a project?

I've imported a 5.1 AVCHD video which turns into 5 tracks: Video, Front, Center, LFE, Rear. I'd like to fade all in at the same time. Can I do this without having to add a fade to each individual item?

Related: I probably never want to muck with the individual audio tracks. Can I somehow group them together so any changes are applied together?

Not as far as I know - but you can make a work-around "tool":

Take a short clip and put the video opacity to 0 and the audio gains to -inf. When you drag this "tool" over the end of the clip that you want to fade it is done in all tracks (video and audio) at the same time.

You can have this "tool" together with other stuff in a separate project and then just copy and paste it where you need it into your main project.

Thanks. That makes sense.

I'm still surprised there's not an obvious way to fade a video and its associated audio at the same time.

Yep, I hear ya. That's on my short list of small features I would desparately like to see Sony introduce into VMS.

A little tip: Once you set your fade on the first track and the cursor is still showing the fade icon, click the track, which will set your timeline marker right at the end of the fade. Then you can set fades of the same length on the other tracks much more quickly, since they will "snap" to the timeline marker.

Hope that helps take the edge off the pain a little.

I don't think that's necessary. Won't fades "snap" to match an adjacent track fade?

I've never experienced that before. I believe the answer is no, unless I'm missing something.

My mistake. I was thinking about something else.

Hi,

>Won't fades "snap" to match an adjacent track fade?<

well, at least for Vegas Pro that's correct.

Cheers
