Fading title causes video to darken -- bug?

I created a clip of text media and have it fading in over a background and then later fade out. The moment the text begins to fade (in either direction), there is a noticeable darkening of the screen. I'm using a composite level envelope to perform the fade. After the fade finishes, the screen brightens back to the original level.

I've tried multiple times in different projects, and it's consistently reproducible. The more layers of title text I add, the steeper the drop in brightness. I've double checked that I have no other keyframed events, and my transparency settings for the text background is set to be fully transparent.

Anyone know if this is a bug? The darkening is clearly noticeable and diminishes the professionalism I can give my customers!

I guess my first question would be why you're using a composite envelope for fading. Just move the mouse over an upper corner of the text event (left or right depending on whether you're adjusting fade in or fade out) and the mouse will turn into a quarter moon icon. Click and drag toward the center of the clip to create a fade of the desired length.

I just finished a project in Vegas with lower third supers that fade in and out and I haven't encountered that problem. I was using the event fade handle (the half moon thing jetdv mentioned). Just FYI !!!

You're right; the event fade works fine. I guess I should have done that instead. I was doing some complex layering later in the video, and I got so entrenched into the composite envelope, I just stuck with it when I went back to do the titles.

Thanks for both your replies! I'm still curious why the composite envelope does that. Seems like a bug, but maybe someone can enlighten me.

Personally, I have not seen it. However, I don't use composite envelopes very often.
