Fail to open .avi/divix files in Sony vegas(6.0)

First off i have both codecs installed.

Video plays fine in windows media player, i can open it in windows movie maker.

I open it with video inspector and it says i have all the codecs needed for it.

I open it in Sony vegas movie studio 6.0, audio shows up and still no video.

I have unchecked the box that disables third party codecs.

In the past i have had Divix files that opened up fine in sony vegas movie studio, they no longer show up now.

video specs:

video: XviD MPEG-4 Codec

Audio: MPEG 1 or 2 Audio layer 3(MP3)

Interesting note when i open internet explorer it says

Filters And Codecs Requiring Runtime Licensing
The filters and codecs listed on this page require runtime licenses. You may not deploy or distribute your end user application with any of these filters or codecs unless you first enter into a duplication and distribution agreement. Evaluation versions of these filters and codecs are included with the LEADTOOLS Multimedia setup and will generate an evaluation notice when used and/or will expire after a period of time.

Was wondering if maybe that had anything to do with it?

I have also downloaded trial versions of SVMS 8.0 and 8.0b and still no luck in opening the file.

Funny how a free program like Windows movie maker can open the file, but Sonys cannot.

I have tried multiple files, ones that used to work that i still have on my computer.

VMS does not support editing DviX and XViD. Windows Movie Maker works with it simply because the application allows Windows-installed codecs to its internal engine. VMS does not allow this (I assume because it would be "dangerous" in terms of editing precision to allow whatever codec). It does allow you to export to these codecs if they are installed -- just not edit them.

That being said, VMS will allow other types of windows installed .avi files to be edited, like Lagarith and Huffyuv, the open source lossless codecs.

Thats funny because last year i edited over 10-12 divix files without any problem and now all of a sudden they stopped working

Well, dunno then. I can't open them on my VMS8 either (and I do have codecs installed). Maybe the new DivX or XViD codec versions have a bug, or a different code, and don't allow all apps to use it but only the ones that the codecs "recognize". Who knows.

Also, try re-opening the same files from last year and see if they still work. You see DivX 3.x files are not the same as the 5.0 ones.
