Fatal spelling error

Someone help!!
Just having start burning a larging project to DVD, and being brave enough to erase the first 20 clips to make space for the burning, than I noticed there was a spellingmisstake ( unacceptable) in the beginning. I know its my fault!!!
However. My question is is there an easy way to redo this after burning ( instead of spending 100 hours of editing i mean) by only edit the beginning and then burn that to a separate disc and than sort of put the two together on a new mpeg2 file and burn it again?
I believe I have done this before and then the quality was worse in the end.
Greatful for any ideas

You'll lose quality any time you try to edit the MPEG and re-render it, because it's a compressed format. The only way to make them correctly is to start with that part of the veg file again. You can recapture those first 20 clips by using the Recapture Missing Media tool in the Media Pool.
There are tools like TMPG that will can re-stitch mpeg back together, but it's the title change that will force recompression, which you don't wanna do if you don't wanna lose quality.

Thanks, i have noticed though that the part I need to change was not erased but a part in the middle of the production.I have changed the spellingmisstake. The easiest thing now would of course be to "stich the two mpeg2 together but I dont know then how to use the TMPG. Where can I find that tool and why does it loose quality to use?
If I instead choose to recapture the missing files - something i have never done...vill the sofware find the right footage on the DV tapes?

This is a little bit OT, but I use dictionary.com to avoid exactly that sort of thing. It's just a matter of checking and correcting spelling right away, not putting it off till later when you're likely to forget. I just printed out about 20 miss-spelled glossy DVD covers about a week ago because I was going to "check my spelling later"!

if you want to just re-render out the parts with the mistake & use tmpgenc, here's what you need to do (i've done this a couple times, works really well).

1) re-render the parts you want.

2) use tmpgenc to split the origional mpeg file at the points you want to inster the new stuff (ie if you want to replace something in the middle, you need to split the mpeg into 2 parts: before the replacement & after the replacement)

3) use the mpeg joiner tool in tmpgenc to re-stitch these together. The new whole mpeg should be just fine now.

that's it! :)

thanx, that sound quite straight forward. But where do you find this tool?I am a bit stone age as using Vegas 4 and Arcitect 1.

do what i do and NEVER delete project files until you are FULLY done with the project (handed in to the client, they proof it, like it, and pay you/thank you and the deal's done) Even then, I always back up a DV AVI render of my project on a DVD-R, so if the client or friends comes to me 2 years down the road and says "can you make me another copy of that DVD, it got scratched beyond repair, broken, etc.", I just load the AVI into vegas, burn an mpeg, and then re-create the DVD. May take time to redo the DVD, but at least I don't have to edit the whole project again.

That's the good thing about Sony's DV codec, it's just about as good as uncompressed, so keeping a DV file will do.

get TMPGEnc Plus v2.5. I think v3 blows dogs. :(

it's eigther a 15 or 30 day trial, then all mpeg-2 ability is disabled, but it still works finr for mpeg-1.

I don't even bother with a DVD, I save the entire file onto a backup harddrive (I just got a 250 gig for $99 (after rebates)). I have several 80 gig drives that I use for just this. I have them in tray system (19.95 for the tray with bay, and then just 12.00 for each additional tray). I put these in 3 of our 4 networked computers and have 7 trays.

Just out of curiousity, which tray(s) do you use and where do you get them?

I can also get bay/tray combos for about $20, but I cannot buy individual trays; I have to get the whole bay/tray combo again.

Thanks for any info!

Just warning you for this company. They promised 14 days free trial then after two days they asked me to pay or be deleted , so after paying $48 I didt get it to work and now they are not answering the support.Obviously not a good way to edit MPEG2 file...
any other options?

Pagasys seem like a pretty decent bunch of guys actually, I paid once only for the product and have had several years worth of free upgrades. I've used it to encode around 500 VCDs so I'm not complaining, I've got my money back 100 times over.
It's a rather arcane interface but there's lots of power under the hood.
For $49 how much support do you think they can afford, bear in mind I'm not certain if they can even read English. But you should be able to find heaps of stuff around about how to use it.

Bob.

you did get v2.5, right? And I've never had problems with the 14 day trial. Did you mess with your comp clock?
puttes wrote on 10/21/2004, 12:01 AM
No I didnt mess with the clock...

Yes, Pegasys has trouble with the english language, especially if they detect that you are angry. But the product works really well, even if it does freeze up every once in a while. I found a lot of answers, or I should say 'help' at DVDRhelp dot com (now known as videohelp dot com) You just have to search and it's a big site.

tmpeg is great, also for simple mpeg stitching and clipping/editing, get the superb tools at www.boilsoft.com , they work fine, free trials .. and for simple vob editing get the free www.digital-miner.com "chopper" program

those are all simple tools.. it would be nice to see simple mpeg stitching/editing features in Vegas 6 ... (or someone do a script?)..
