fcp capture?

i have a client who's digitizing his hdv tape foootage via fcp capture and wanting to supply me with .mov files.

he's sent me a few 'test' shots but i can only view them in vlc, or use handbrake to convert. they wont open in vegas, ppro, media encoder, and though i can view them in catalyst browse if i try transcoding them they simply c*ap out after a few minutes...

since i don't have fcp is there anyway he can digitize directly to another codec?

alternatively (it's his time), could he run them through fcp and spit out mp4 or mxf? and if so, what would be better the best option for green screen*?

*it's a lot of talking heads...

Tell your client to send you ProRes 422 files. Especially if you are using green screen.

just to add to this.... and since posting over at the catalyst board seems pointless since apparently no-one's using it...

i dl cat prepare and found it not only accepts a LOT of input codecs, but it actually works with aic - apple fcp's intermediary codec!!!! even qt wouldn't show them.

so, i think prepare might well be useful (even in my limited workflow) - especially the logging and creation of subclips - which, though possible in vegas is nowhere near as 'neat' and efficient as in prepare....
