... same problem; won't install on my microwave oven ... just slipped the cd-rom in and all I got was a firecracker special effect transition then beeeeep, no install.
I double-checked before you ask: YES, everything is plugged in the wall and I pressed "power" like they said in the manual.
Or maybe I just ordered a plugin by mistake ? Then, if the plugin is like $1000, how much is the Program??? Pheeew, on TV they didn't say it's so expensive editing video at home !

any help? please? I'm desperate to run Vegas!<<<<
Did you defrag before, during and after installing? Also make sure you have the anti-virus disabled. Also try not to play Pong during install.
"FCP4 won't even INSTALL on my otherwise perfectly functioning PIII/Win2k machine."
Well, obviously you're not a professional who's been using FCP professionally in a professional environment. If you were, you'd know that FCP has had the capability of running WITHIN the Avid Media Composer project timeline on Mac and PC workstations since 1982. I swear, VV will never be a professional level app until YOU AMATEURS stop using it and let us PROFESSIONALS pay more money for it (professionally).

Always remove your coffe from tray before inserting disc!!!
Shawn,
I've got to disagree with part of your statement. My experience has been that the more people that use a product the better it becomes, be they amateur or professional, mainly because the developers like to eat and work much more productively if they can afford to do so [more users=more capitol; Windows has come a long way as an example]. Otherwise developers end up like the poor badger above trying to cook a cd for a little nourishment.

Actually, I was just being sarcastic. Though, there really are those in the VV community that would like to see Vegas tailored only to high end pros (and cost three times as much) - I'm not one of them.
Shawn,
I'm sorta concerned as to what Sony Digital has in mind; it will be interesting to see what happens to the product lines "when?" ownership shifts; this may actually have more impact than the amount of users on future releases. I hope "as projected" that things will be better and we can chuckle at how good life is.
Thanks for your positive comments,
Gold
