FEATHERING TECHNIQUE

Does anyone know how to "Truly" feather the edges of a PIP on V1? I've tried the motion tracking option but as the scene changes the (so does the feathering) and NOT a good soft edge at that.

I can still SEE the hard edges. It appears that there just a soft GLOW around the four corners of the PIP and not the REAL fethering that can be accomplishe either with Premiers AE or using adobe premiere with a mask. (too much trouble and time consuming) although it WORKS extremely well.

There must be SOME way to feather the edges (soft wipe) without going through a lot of rigarmaro?

Thanks!

Try Border FX, you can hard, soft or bevel the border.

Or Cookie Cutter.

FWIW, there's an article on/at DV.com regarding keying -> off topic but it goes into one of the prob you might be having, the difficulties of a soft edge with/in DV. Might give you some ideas for a workaround rather then going to a compositing app like ae or exporting to stills and usng batch processing in p/shop.

I have had great success with the cookie cutter. I set a large border and then adjust the edges. I put a pink oval around a female elementary school principle and it softened the look.

Chanimal:

That female school principal might gently suggest you to check your spelling. Couldn't resist a reply, after all, it's the principle of the thing...

Hi,

You can also use:

Generated Media -> Color Gradient -> Eliptical White to Black

as the mask in a parent/child combo. It's somewhat similar in principle/principal to how premiere works with track motion (if I remember correctly). :)

Guess I ought to go back to school. Fortunately, I spelled it right on the school video.

Thanks.
