Feature Suggestions

1) Could Vegas have a feature to export regions (to multiple video files) the way SoundForge does?

2) Could a feature be added such that you could do some editing on an individual track while Vegas is playing? I'm imagining being able to select a clip, assign it a starting position on a track, and then using a 'hotkey' to toggle it on and off as Vegas plays. This would be good for matching cuts up to a beat, if you are toggling between two or more tracks. It would be a lot faster than matching each one up manually.

I believe you can do 2) already. You can edit while Vegas is playing. You can mute/unmute individual tracks on the fly while it's playing too. You can even import and delete clips while it's playing. Will this cover what you need?

it's hard for me to explain correctly. Let's say i have AVI1, AVI2 and a song as a WAV..

I set things up so track 1 is empty, track 2 has all of AVI2 and track 3 has the WAV file..

I imagine where i somehow designate AVI1 as the clip I want to do realtime editing with and assign it to track 1 and choose a starting point.

I hit play and then hit a certain hot key. Whenever the key is pressed down, Vegas would draw a new event on the track wherever the cursor traversed while it was playing. Each event would contain the portion of AVI1 that corresponded with the duration that had progressed from the starting point we set on the timeline.

This basically recreates live A/B switching between two sources. You can do this now manually by gapping the event, but if you are doing a lot of fast jumpcuts it can take a long time. And doing this in time with the beat of a song - while magnitudes easier than a cuts-editing system - can still be a bit tedious.

Do a search here for Multicam. This guy Marty did a site about a slick way to accomplish your goals.
Here is a run down for your needs.
Track one empty, track two AVI 1, track three AVI 2, track three WAV (locked).
Use track motion on tracks two and three to scale and position so you can see both at the same time. Play your project and hit the m key to set markers to the beat at places you want to edit. Or on the beat the full way thru. There is an option to arm an audio track and record your AB calls while you set the markers.
Now the trick is to click somewhere on the timeline (end) that doesn't have any clips. Now there are no clips highlighted on the timeline. At start of project, hit cntrl and right arrow to skip to first marker. Hit the S key to split. Note that both tracks did a split to the clips. Cntrl arrow to advance to next marker and repeat the split. When done, you can now go back and pick clips and drag them up to the empty track one. Zoom and drag edges to overlap. Once going, horz. zooming on the timeline will let you add edit points to the beat by reading the wav waveform window. Muting tracks two and three will let watch (heck, even render) your masterpiece on track one. Have fun.
