File Conversion Headache

Hello All,
Need a bit of help here if someone can shed some light. Using a Sony HDR-FX1e in Hi Def and capturing to disk using built in vegas 6 utility.
The resultant captured files are in .m2t fomat and i need to convert these to .avi's as some of the applications i use wont import m2t's. Tried rendering individual clips from the timeline to avi (which works i must add) but the drop in visual quality is too much for my liking. Is there a way of converting a m2t to an avi without recompression
??????

Any help will be greatfully received
Paul

No. m2t = HD, avi = SD.

What other apps are you needing to use your video with?

First, you have to tell us what kind of apps are these and if they support DirectShow. If yes, then you can install the Lagarith open source lossless codec, configure it to create smaller file sizes, export in AVI Lagarith (rather than AVI DV) in full HD, and then load these files in your apps for further work.

Thanks for the clarification Eugenia. I probably shouldn't have replied since I don't use HD yet. But I agree, it would help to know what other apps are used.

Hi Eugenia,
I downloaded and saved Lagarith to my desktop. If I open and install it, will it give me an option as to where? If I choose VMS, will it be an option in VMS under 'Render As'? Thanks in advance for all your help. Cin

Yes, it will be under the AVI option. Select it under the Codec option in the AVI customization panel, and select YUY2 in there, in order to create smaller lagarith files.
