file deletes in explorer view

I would like to be able to destroy bad takes right after
they occur in Vegas. Right now if I record an event, said
event sucks, so I go to delete it in VP's explorer window
I get an error saying the file is in use. I have to shut
down VP, and then delete the bad take(s). I think the same
thing occurs if try from windows explorer. I'm guessing
that VP isn't letting go of the file handle so the OS says
you can't delete.

It's a bit of a brain teaser to wipe out bad takes at the
next session, or even ten minutes later sometimes and this
would be a nice feature in my opinion.

Anyone know a workaround for right now, that doesn't
require shutting down Vegas?

Thanks!!

Erich

PS
I am aware of the ability to delete events permanently with the
dialog box that appears right after a recording. Problem is often
times you have to hear the take back once before fully realizing that
it thoroughly sucks and has no place whatsoever on your harddrive.

Thanks

Hi Erich,

Don't be aware of that. When you ask VP to delete a take after
recording, it just gets rid of the waveform but the .wav file is
still on the HD.
To be sure about what I will definitely delete or not, I use the old
fashion "pen and paper" way.

Options>Preferences>General>Prompt to keep files after recording.

Hope this helps.

I know what he's talking about. You keep the take (you may not know
right away that you don't want it) but then later on you decide you
just want to delete the .wav file. You have to close the project
because, yes, it IS holding onto it as project media. It would be
nice (agreed) to be able to delete any .wav file that wasn't being
used in a track but had been at some point. Unfortunatley, there is
no work around. You have to "release" it. I've told them about this
many times and I think there will be improvements to file management
in the next version.

Hope that helps.
Charles.
