File not recognized

I took 2 videos (MP4) with my GoPro HD yesterday with same settings. One is recognized fine by my Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0b (build 92). The other is not recognized. In Vegas, when I click on the file name, no information about it is displayed and I can't drag it to the timeline. There was nothing that seemed abnormal when taking the video. Same problem happened last time I took video with the GoPro. One was OK, the other was not.

The file not recognized by Vegas plays fine in QuickTime, Windows Media Player, loads and plays fine in Pinnacle Studio 14. However, it does crash Cineform Neoscene with message "HDLink.exe has stopped working."

Particulars on MP4 video that is OK: 1280x720x32, 29.9780 fps progressive, 00:32:33.852, AVC. Audio: 48,000 Hz, Stereo, 00:32:33.852, AAC.

Any thoughts?

Computer: Dell Studio XPS 435T/9000 with 12 GB RAM, Windows 7 Ultimate.

This kind of problem is "often" associated with errors on the SDHC card.
Try again with another card in your GoPro, preferably Class 10, and see if the problem persists.

You "may" be able to reindex your file using the "Quickstream Fix" function in VideoRedo. It has a free trial period.

I tried the "Quickstream Fix" function in VideoRedo. Didn't fix it correctly, but was worth a try.

I forgot about the SDHC card. I know from the GoPro forum that some don't work well with the GoPro HD. I have a 16 gb Panasonic Class 10 in there now. I'll try another one. I see at the GoPro site they suggest.....

The HD HERO camera supports SD/SDHC cards up to 32GB (any SD card over 2GB is considered a SDHC card). We recommend name brand SDHC cards with a class 4 rating or higher. The two cards that we mostly use in house, which work well are the Kingston and Patriot brand class 4 cards. We mostly use the 16GB class 4 card, as it gives you the most ‘bang for your buck’.

I'll look for Kingston or Patriot, Class 10 if I can find it.

Thanks for your assistance!

Looks like I had this figured out last year. Completely forgot about it. Sheeesh. Makes sense. The MP4 that was OK is < 2 gb and the problem (for SVMS9) file is > 2 gb. Unfortunately Neoscene wouldn't fix this one. Maybe still the SDHC card for that.

Sounds like the same problem as folks (like me) have had with the GoPro HD Hero which also outputs mp4 files. SVMS9 doesn't recognize these mp4s if they are bigger than ~ 2gb. Somebody over on the GoPro forum said he sent Sony a file and they verified the problem. Dunno if/when a fix. I convert all GoPro files to .avi with NeoScene to avoid the problem (and others). Or, as you note, shoot smaller clips.

I DLed the latest version of Neoscene and now it converts the problem MP4 without crashing.

Thanks again for your help.
