I have a job edited in the vegas timeline using SD .mpg footage. I would like to keep the work but use the HD footage with the same file names. with the file extension .m2ts
is there a way to have the vegas timeline look for the other files without having to re edit the job
Or just rename the SD footage you want to replace - SD-OLD - or whatever. When you open Vegas, it'll tell you it can't find it, point it at the HD file - job done. :-)
"The script "batch replace" is more appropriate when proxy files are not encoded with ProxyStream."
Is "batch replace" a third-party script? If so where?
That said, ProxyStream could still be used regardless of where the files were encoded.
As long as they're in the same folder and have the same names. (not counting the extension which would be the only naming difference)

Yes. Same place as ProxyStream.

ProxyStream does not change the extension for the proxy files but add the new extension:
FileName.mts >>> FileName.mts.avi
Without this name structure, Proxy Stream can't switch between proxy files and source files.
Sorry, you're right, Batch Replace is more appropriate the Proxy Stream in this case.
Vegasaur also has a nice function to replace media. It's not free but I'm trialing it at the moment and it's a very nice Vegas add-on.
I would love someone to come up with a file replacement script or custom command that allows a rewrite pattern in the body of the filename and not just a different extension. For example, say I rename a lot of my wildlife clips when the scientists change the scientific name. Even better if such functionality could be integrated into an offline media resolver. At the moment I use the Peachrock Veggie Toolkit Offline Media Resolver to re-link everything, which is better than just doing it in Vegas, but there's not function in there to re-map old filenames to new ones. It's still a case of choosing renamed files one by one.
