File Size Help

I made a promotional DVD for a company years ago, I no longer have the original files or project. I always keep an original copy of all DVD's I do, so I have that. They have a website and want me to put that project on there. I took the .vob files off of the DVD and rendered it to .avi., It made a file size of 446MB. They said that the file couldn't be larger than 100MB. When I go to 'Render As' > 'NTSC DV' > 'Customize' I don't see where I can change the bit rate. Is there a way to tell VMS what size you would like something and just let it handle what is best? They want it .avi or .wav if that makes a difference. Any steps or tips on how to do this the best from the DVD would be appreciated. Thanks. Cin
Edit: Just reread their email, says 'please send as an .avi, .wmv, or .mpg file no larger than 100MB.' To be honest, not sure if they want to just view the file on their computer for themselves, or if it actually will be on a website for others to view......

You don't want to load an AVI or a VOB or even an MPEG to a web site. These are TV based formats and are interlaced -- so they won't look good.

Better to use a WMV or a web-based MOV or, best of all, a Sony AVC using one of the Internet options.

Import your DVD in Handbrake, encode to x264 mp4 using the Normal preset.
That's really all it takes . . .

Thanks Steve and Music for the replies. Started Handbrake, asked to do an update, now no longer recognizes my 'source' grrrr!!!! Hate this crap! Was hoping to do it inside VMS if possible anyway, so unless any more ideas, will just have to try different formats and settings.........Thanks. Cin

DVD isn't encrypted, is it?

Choose MainConcept MP4 and start with the iPad 640x480 preset, adjust as necessary. How long is the video? That will determine which bitrate you need. 1.2Mbps would allow about 10 minutes' worth, and that's probably about as low as you'd want to go.

Don't want to go down that road again MusicVid, but no, it's my DVD and has no encryption. Thanks Kelly, that did the trick. It took it down to 87MB and it looks pretty good on the computer, I really can't see that much difference. Seems like there should be a feature to where you tell it how big you want something and it figures out the best way to do that. Thanks again everyone for the help. Cin

That would be nice, but the math is easy enough to handle. Heck, i do a lot of it in my head in a few seconds, but even if you're not a math whiz a calculator handles it well enough.
