File Size Issue

Hello,

I rendered a video file to MPEG2 format in vegas 7. The file size after rendering is 3.5 gig. When I open the file DVDA 4 I get the "red" highlighted error (bottom right) indicating that the file is too large at 6.2 gig. I'm a little confused to why I'm getting this message? One thing I did notice is that the directory that I'm trying to save the file to doesn't have enough space (2.5 gig), but this still doesn't explain the 6.2 gig msg. I'm seeing - or does it?

Thanks,
Troy

1st off the *projected* size of the total DVD files is a guess. It's based in part on the size of files that have yet to be encoded, so something like a picture compilation will show a high figure -- if you Make DVD writing the layout to hdd, the projected size more closely reflects the actual for example.

If you import an mpg2 video that doesn't need re-encoding, it shouldn't near double the size however, unless you've got a very large number of menus or similar. If you open the optimize window (under the file menu) you'll see if DVDA thinks it needs to re-encode your video, &/or if it's importing your video twice -- either can lead to higher size projections. Check the audio as well -- a .wav file for a 2 hour video is about 2 gig. If DVDA is set to encode .wav audio, I think the size would reflect the existing .wav audio rather than the unknown size of the ac3.

Make sure you render the file using one of the DVD Architect templates. Using the defaut template will force DVDA to re-encode the file (which you don't want) and will throw off the size calculation.
