file size limit issues

The new Vegas 2.0g update claims it will automatically create a second
avi when you reach the file system limit.. But what can one then do
with two AVIs? How would you print that to tape seamlessly?

I installed my new box with Win2K Pro to avoid the 4gig limit of FAT32,
but I am running into unrelated issues with my Matrox card regarding
dual displays that may force me to move back to Me. I also use this
machine for live VJing as well as video editing, so dual-display stuff is
important.

If there is no way to comfortably deal with spanned AVIs, then is there
any way to get WinMe to deal with NTFS volumes?

So how does Vidcap do this? How do you load both of them together
and append them in VidCap?

When you render past a Windows file size limit (such as there is with FAT32 drives), the avi segments have a pointer to their next descendant, so you can playback these chained files seamlessly. There is no exposed UI to do this in either Vegas, VideoFactory, or Vidcap- it is entirely behind the scenes.

OK so it's kind of like working with multi-spanned RAR files.. You only
deal with the first file..

Cool.

Does only SFvidcap know what to do with these? Or can I just as well
throw them into Premiere or something else?

Only SF Vidcap knows.

Will 2.0e of vidcap print-to-tape the sequenced avi files seemlessly or do I need 2.5? If so, where do I get 2.5? Don't see it on the upgrades list on the SF website.

Does this file segmenting work when doing an analog capture, or only for DV capture and rendering?

I just tried it with an analog capture on a FAT32 drive and it quit with an "unknown error" when the AVI file size reached 4G.

SO CLOSE! Created 11gig project in Vegas 12g, everything is seamless. Great. Downloaded VidFactory to get Capture 2.5 but I have audio stuttering problems when printing to taoe, not consistently in same place and an occasional video glitch. Same rendered segment plays back fine from timeline, Windows and seems to print to tape fine using VidCap2.0e. I think it must be a problem with Cap 2.5., would having 2.0e and 2.5 together on same machine cause this? Should I uninstall 2.5 and redownload? Any ideas? I really don"t think it's a buffer setting problem. This is going to be so nice when it all works. Thanks. Bill
